Using the World Currency Reference

A quick-reference table for travel, shopping, remittance, and study-abroad situations. ISO 4217 codes are the international standard for financial transactions and currency exchange.

What is ISO 4217?

The international 3-letter currency code standard. The first two letters are the country code and the last is typically the currency's initial (e.g., US + Dollar → USD).

Are these rates accurate?

No — these are approximate references. Actual bank rates include spread, cash buy/sell differences, and fees. Always check your bank or exchange's live rate before transacting.

Why do so many countries use the same currency name (peso, krone, dollar)?

Many names spread through colonial ties or trade links, and newly independent nations kept familiar terms. The ISO code or symbol prefix (C$, HK$) distinguishes them.
